about

(Wedel-Desmond) IMRO

Donal Desmond aka "YOGI" wrote
and gave me the first two verses of this song
I wrote the chords, the chorus and the last verse
Yogi also suggested the line
"Take My Fantasy Home"
It was 1979, we were both 16 years old
he played bass, i played guitar and
had a band called "Cold Sweat"
with Billy Attridge on drums in Mallow, Co. Cork
We would rehearse in Yogi's garage
By 1984, I was playing it with
and on Princes Street while busking...
Mick Geraghty would have me play the chords
over and over in his flat on McCutain Street
and by 1988, we eventually recorded it
with Princes Street at Sulan Studios
(See Credits)

I like that there's such great slide on it
by a bluesman
because I remember being obsessed with
Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones when I wrote the words...
Carol Barrett gave it all with her young lungs on the bridge
on the recording...

It's always a great platform for expressive solos...

Amen!

~This was the second song on the cassette
"The Night John Lynch Lost his Glasses"
that was released in 1989
If you want a copy of that cassette
by all means, check out the merch section
on this Bandcamp page
and see if they're still on sale

~It was also released in 1997 on a CDLP
entitled
"An Open Kitchen on Princes Street"
on Paddy McNichol's "Rescue Records"

Here's a the official video of the song
edited by Dave Whelan, who served his time
being driven crazy driving us around
